Re: Trailer: Pan

The phrase "The Untold Story" always bugs me, since it's basically just saying "We changed stuff!" Still, this looks like something I could enjoy with my younger siblings. I don't mind having to turn my brain off for their sake once in a while.

Here's another vote in favor of "Faith of the Heart."

Re: [DECK 01: Bridge]

Mike entered the bridge and headed for his station with a smile on his face, enjoying the memory of his reckless clandestine evacuation from Sickbay with Zaeryn. There would be hell to pay from Doctor Ramak later, but for now Mike still found it funny. As he surveyed the bridge, Mike was pleasantly ...

Re: [DECK 7: Main Sickbay]

Mike glanced back nervously one last time before leaving Sickbay, following close behind Zaeryn as she rushed towards the nearest turbolift. "Computer," Mike said as an afterthought, "state the location of Lieutenant Commander Tam." "Lieutenant Commander Tam is on the bridge," the computer replied p...

Re: Starfleet department heads with two positions

Thanks very much, guys. I appreciate the input. I do agree with Joe regarding the Ship's Counselor/Security Chief combination. While an understanding of psychology and the ability to make someone feel at ease would be of great benefit to a Security Officer, the roles of Counselor and Chief of Securi...

Starfleet department heads with two positions

I'm wondering which positions it would be plausible for one Starfleet officer to pull double duty with. Spock is the obvious example, being both the First Officer and the Chief Science Officer. What other combinations do you think would be reasonable? Do you think, for example, that a single officer...

Re: What does "canon" mean to you?

I've used the word loosely myself ... for example, here I use it interchangeably with personal continuity: "Canon Fire" As a matter of fact, you've convinced me to go back and edit this. I'm not sure if I should say "I'm sorry" or "You're welcome." :D Canon is the baseline for comparison. It's a un...

Re: What does "canon" mean to you?

Yeah, so what does the sentence "this is canon" mean? How does it affect how you enjoy Trek? That's not the same as asking what parts of Trek you want to be canonical.

Re: What does "canon" mean to you?

Fair enough, Joe, most people use canon and continuity interchangeably as well as fitting the term "headcanon" in there somewhere too. But you're right that they're not the same. That's still not really what I'm asking, though. Once The Powers That Be declare something to be canonical (or not canoni...

Re: What does "canon" mean to you?

Those are all interesting points, but they still seem pretty close to what you think makes something canon. But once you decide whether you consider it canon or not, so what? Why is the distinction important to you? For me, all "the books aren't canon" means is that they don't affect events onscreen...
