Danger, Will Robinson, danger! Will it be as good as the original and the movie floats through my mind.

"Geronimo!"

Well, I always got a good giggle out of the original's campiness...and the movie, while not amazing, was still fun, so who knows? We'll have to wait and see.

This seems like one of those things which will either be extremely good, or very bad.

However, given Netflix's excellent work on The Crown, I'm willing to give it a shot.

Here’s a spoiler. The new Doctor Smith is going to be a woman.

I can’t tell if the Robot is a robot or an alien ally. Weird.

I just finished watching this series.

Contrary to my expectations (based on the original series and that movie) I really enjoyed this. It was different enough from both the original and the movie to make it interesting and fun. I felt it was a real science fiction story told in a serious manner, but still fun.

I liked how they built the story and characters from episode to episode, keeping the focus on the particular story at hand, but adding to the larger narrative as they went. And there were enough surprises along the way to keep it interesting.

I especially liked the characters. They kept the focus on the family and the problems they brought with them, interweaving that with the narrative about being lost and trying to get back. I thought Will Robinson was quite well done, and was pleased they avoided the super-genius portrayal from the film. He was intelligent, but still a kid. The young man playing the part is quite good. In fact, all the actors are good. I didn't feel any of them were phoning it in like William Hurt in the film.

I am glad they jettisoned the farce of the original series. Jonathan Harris could make the farce work, but I can't imagine it working today.
Spoiler:
I enjoyed the mystery of the robot, and how it tied back into not only the original disaster which got them stuck on the planet, but also how they got there in the first place.
I hope they do a second season. I'd really like to see where they go from here.
