Hi everyone. I was just checking out the Star Trek Online forum, and noticed that the user posting at the bottom of this thread is using what looks like a manip from the site of Seven of Nine. I'm not sure if the user has asked permission to use the image. http://forums.startrekonline.com/showth ... p?t=204550 Username is Darth_Orici

if it's posted in the free use section (idk if it is or not) then it shouldn't be a problem as long as he's not claiming to have done it himself

That's a manip of Seven in FC uniform that I did for someone here by request. Not sure if the person who requested it of me gave them permission to use it. I certainly didn't. They probably just swiped it off my webpage. Not hurting anyone using it as their avatar though. As was mentioned, they're not claiming it as their own work or making any money off of it or anything, so I don't see a problem with it.

Good question, Abrin.
This used to happen quite a lot when I was on Worth1000 (Photomanipulation contest/forum site)...at first some people were offended but eventually they just said 'meh, free advertising' and stopped pursuing it. Especially since the Worth1000 watermark was usually still on the image. And like RT said, they're not claiming to have made it so it's not a huge deal. It could even be the same person it was made for on a different forum under a different name.

Things like this are very iffy anyway. We have no control over what is on another forum, we can on put sanctions on our own members (and have in the past).
However, photomanips are a very iffy situation... the original portraits/screencaps/photos are generally not owned by us, so even if we knew he took it, even if he was claiming it as his own... the best that could be done would be to contact the forum management who could/would/might have it removed.
One of my LJ community creates very well done "Supernatural" manips... and has found her stuff being sold on Ebay as actual photos of the stars. That's rather wrong on two levels.

No need to apologize. You did not wrong me in any way. I was just offering an old truism for consideration. Carry on.
