Which one is right?

Post by Abrin Gos » Sat Dec 04, 2010 6:29 am

This is something I've been thinking about for awhile, which I'm still not sure about. What is the official name for Lt Arex's species? Is it Edosian, Triexian, or are both right, and just different names for the same species (like using Earther or Terran to describe humans)

Thanks :)

Now I've read them, it says Edosian's and Triexians look very similar 8)

I guess it boils down (as usual) to what priority you personally rank various sources in. Originally, Arex was Edoan, but that got retconned to Triexian in recent novels. So if you're old school, you'll go with Edoan, and if you like the new NF novels, you'll go with Triexian.

I haven't read any NF books, but just on the surface it seems like an odd and pointless change to make. Maybe there's some hidden logic behind it in the books. :-k ):(

That's a good point Rich. I think the few times (so far) that Arex has appeared in the RP my girlfriend and I play, we've referred to him as Edosian, although he hasn't appeared lately, so we may have even called him Triexian

In any case, thanks for your input, and thanks again for the links captainuniverse, I really appreciate it :/

There isn't. Peter David's exaggerated idea of his own skills as a writer and innate knowledge base lead him to arbitrary changes and egregious errors of that sort. I still roll my eyes at the lengths he went to disguise the fact that he didn't know 'executive officer' and 'first officer' referred to the same post. Instead, he concocted an asinine justification that made one the commander of the night shift, or some such bullshit. It rivaled Lucas' "made the Kessel Run in twelve parsecs" in obtuseness, if not fame.

At least four people who post here regularly are better writers than Peter David, and that's after they've had a frontal lobotomy.

He didn't know that the XO and First Officer are the same post? Okay, that's just stupid. He's writing Star Trek fiction, and he doesn't understand the terms for the positions? :[]]

I think that I would go with the Lincoln Enterprises catalog species name and the Star Trek Logs by Alan Dean Foster over the creation of novelist Peter David.

I'm wondering which of those four he could be speaking about. [-o<

I imagine you're a big enough boy or girl to formulate your own opinion on this matter.
