Space Station 74.3

Space Station 74.3

This is a Vulcan Space Station. It lies between the core and the old Orion Main. The station exists as a commercial way point and as support for commercial starships on their way between here and there. The Vulcan answer to a truck stop and a swap meet.

The Station supports Starfleet vessels who visit.

The design is Vulcan flavored Federation. The Station has two escort ships that loiter nearby.

Although it is a Vulcan Space station and is administered by Vulcans, they'll employ anyone who wants to work for them and is competent.

The station also supports an Anti-matter refinery and has large stocks of dilithium.

It is famous far and wide. You can fuel up your ship and resupply for as cheap as anywhere in known space.

And the Vulcans will give you discounts for telling them things. They like information. Raw and fresh. They have a mind boggling matrix for deciding the value of offered information. Of course your credit depends on if they can confirm your information and how easily.

Pirates and Scum don't go there. The Vulcans and their friends will be very polite and accepting, until you try to leave. Then you're under arrest.

But they deal with occasional people on the shady side of things. They'll pay for any good information. Undiscovered literature from a lost culture? Good. Intelligence on the activities of a notorious crime lord. Good. Sensor readings from a poorly charted area? Good. Your life history? Good. Rumors and unconformable tales? They'll throw you some chump change. (Liars don't realize that, when analyzed the lies they tell contain information about them and what they see as important.) Old Folklore? Good, but if its something they already have, you're out of luck.

Space Station 73.4 also rents out space to Vendors at very reasonable rates, with breaks for information sharing.

The Space Station actually loses money for the Vulcans but is bait for space travelers to share information with the Vulcans, so they consider the expense a worthwhile one.

The Vulcans who work there must be extremely patient, flexible and inventive. There's a certain flavor of straight faced gonzo that works well, there, too. Veterans of the place assert that it challenged and enhanced their logic and mental flexibility. They are also prone to very wry, dry humor.

The Station facility itself is actually the 4th one in that spot. The Vulcans have been running this for a long time. Station 74.2 was ruined in a pirate attack. Station 74.3 is much more well defended.

Chunks of the three previous stations were recycled into the new station.

There are rumors that the Station is haunted. These rumors are carefully collated by the Stations folklore dept.

Civilian adventuring parties might be hired by the Administration of Station 74.3 to escort Vulcan scientists on missions to verify recently gathered data, or any of the usual things civil authority is good for asking adventurers to do.

Smaller Starfleet vessels might also get requests for assistance on these sorts of missions from this station.

Crews from larger ships docking there have a good chance of running into someone amusing and adventure prone, Ala Harry Mudd, Cyrano Jones or Quark.

Would you mind if I use this station in my game as long as I give you credit for the idea?
I think it might work well with new campaign.

Please feel free. Jay Hailey is a round gray security guard who shuffles around on the station and has a supernatural power. if something action oriented, or plot related happens, he was somewhere else distracted by something mundane. Infallibly.

Refreshing! (\angel/)
My friend's character has the exact opposite power. He uses player knowledge to
hog the spotlight for his character and make sure he's where the action is in the game.
We can't stand his third wall rule breaking.

He'd do that once in my game.

Once.

And that's why we asked him to leave....after three probations.
That, and the temper tantrums when the game wan't centered
solely around his character. ]]:0

I actually think it's good for a game master to have a bit of a "don't fuck with me or you'll be sorry" reputation.

It always served me well.
