My main peeve at the gym

Postby JM1776 » Sun May 21, 2017 6:31 pm

There is nothing wrong with coming to the weight room focused entirely on your goals and uninterested in human interaction.

There is nothing wrong with listening to your iPod while working out.

There is something wrong, however, with loudly singing along to your chosen tunes. Look, lady … I’m glad you enjoy music and that it helps you get through your workouts. But you need to realize that what for you is your distant accompaniment to Katrina and the Waves’ “Walking on Sunshine” is, for us, your tone-deaf caterwauling to a song I couldn’t stand even before you butchered it at eighty decibels.

Shut … the fuck … up.

lol i agree.

i don't care if someone sings along, as long as they're singing quietly to themselves.

I sing quietly to myself or hum. What I hate is when people ask me to sing just
cause I can carry a tune, and I don't even know them. Like it was my job?

Church and Karaoke is a different story though. [-o<

The key word in your response is "quietly".

In other words, you're considerate of others.

I agree...I sing along in a way that won't disturb others.. Like riding in my car. *L*

I just wish my upstairs neighbor would realize that not everyone is as fond of Hip-hop as he is. (I don't mind it, usually, but it's not my favorite...especially when it's drowning out my movie *puts on headset*)

My roommate in the Air Force had the perfect solution to hip-hop at 2 am on a Tuesday morning when we all had to work. He had the best stereo system in the dorm, and would simply put on John Anderson's "Swangin'".

"Sister's on the porch a eatin' sweet patater pah ..."

The resident noise polluters couldn't turn off their stereos fast enough.

Curtis would then stick his head out the door of our room and yell, "I win again ... and don't you fuckin' forget it, 'cause John's just a waitin'!"

I do, occasionally, resort to a good, loud bagpipe and drum playlist. *lip twitch*

I looked up the lyrics, and have them wrong, but ... I think you took my meaning.

Bagpipes? Heh. I always imagined you have one of those "enthusiastic but sounds like she's strangling a cat" voices.

Nothing stops hip hop better than a good accordion solo, or what I loving refer to as "My IUD".

Actually, it's not for me to judge. *shrugs* But, I've been told that my voice is fairly good...and I have actually performed in public, on stage and all, by myself. (although I know it's not as good as it used to be...I'm very out of practice)

I never really got gyms as a concept. Not in the way these chains are set up. I mean I see them in Europe, too, and some are open for all to look inside but I would not go in ever again. I am a little on the large side amd I cannot think of a less encouraging atmosphere than a gym full of judgemental people. If you think I exaggerate, I would like to point out both personal experience, that of several friends and that disgusting story of that Playboy model who posted a nude pic of a senior citizen in the shower
No matter what I will rather go swimming in the pool few kms away or walk the dog. Much cheaper, too.

Some may not believe this, considering how acerbic I can be at times, but ... I have always gone out of my way to encourage anyone who's not in good shape when in the gym. I think it's inconceivably brave of someone who's not either willow slender or totally jacked to put themselves on display just to access fitness equipment. Anyone who does deserves my admiration and support.

Yeah I can see you doing this. Unfortunately just one 'dipshit' is enough to ruin the experience. For good.

I'm sorry that happened to you.

I myself could stand to lose a few pounds, but I can also bench press 300, so people don't make fun of me unless they want a beating.
