1 Oklahoma 2-0

Easily the most impressive win of the young season, and that means they deserve the top spot.

2 Alabama 2-0

Either Fresno State is better than people think, or the Tide isn't as good. Probably the former.

3 Michigan 2-0

Two quality wins to open their campaign ... and Ohio State does not, for a change, look unbeatable.

4 Southern California 2-0

Putting a hurt on Stanford has to bolster their self-belief.

5 Clemson 2-0

From the best offense in the country last season to the best defense this season?

6 Georgia 2-0

When we see how good the Irish are, we'll know more about the Dawgs.

7 Penn State 2-0

Whipping Pitt had to feel great.

8 Virginia Tech 2-0

They're going to be sneaky good, I think.

9 Texas Christian 2-0

Same with these guys. Just ask Arkansas.

10 Washington 2-0

I don't quite believe in them this year, yet.

11 Louisiana State 2-0

Such an intriguing story.

12 Colorado 2-0

Couple of good quality wins already this year.

13 Oklahoma State 2-0

They're like the Georgia of the West: You can't discount them, but they always disappoint.

14 South Carolina 2-0

Already looking forward to South Carolina-Clemson this year.

15 Kansas State 2-0

Bill Snyder is the man.

16 Louisville 2-0

Tip to UNC: Don't call out Lamar Jackson. He might just come out and play.

17 Ohio State 1-1

Love watchin' 'em get whupped.

18 Ole Miss 2-0

We'll see how long this lasts.

19 Tennessee 2-0

The early-season SEC unbeatens always have to be given the benefit of the doubt, because they're SEC unbeatens.

20 Washington State 2-0

Showed good character against Boise.

21 Oregon 2-0

Well, the offense works again.

22 Auburn 1-1

The season isn't ruined, but they ain't makin' a run at a national title, either.

23 Florida State 0-1

With Francois gone, FSU's dreams for a magical year are as well.

24 Wisconsin 2-0

As usual, looking awesome against the palookas.

25 San Diego State 2-0

Win against Arizona State will look great on the resume if the Devils are decent and the Aztecs run the table.

25 Minnesota 2-0

Another team that could surprise, or even stun.

Knights Watch: After a valiant effort on national television last weekend in a nevertheless surprisingly spirited 30-14 loss to nationally-ranked Washington, Rutgers shit the bird, pun intended, in a loss to the emus of Eastern Michigan. (OK, they're the Eagles, but you know what I mean.) Whatever hopes I had for a surprisingly decent season—of, say, five to seven wins—have been, if not dashed, then seriously dented.
Discovery is not your parents' Star Trek. The problem is, it's not yours, either. It's the Star Trek of your asshole nephew and slutty niece.
