What's your favorite Beatles song?

Post by JM1776 » Thu Nov 23, 2017 4:53 pm

And please don't go with "I don't have one" or "I never liked the Beatles". While such is fine, if that's the case just don't post here.

I'll start.

It's one that most people wouldn't guess is my favorite, since I'm not exactly full of whimsy, but ...

... mine is "Drive My Car". Here are the Jonas Brothers proving that they indeed do not suck:

"Jimmy Connors is a POS."
"Yeah, but that's part of his charm."

I was born in '56; however, I had 2 older siblings, one born in '50 and the other in '47.

I still recall my brothers friend bounding up the stairs, holding "Beatlemania!" in his hand. He would have been 16; I, almost 8. It shaped my musical future.

In response, I will have to pick one and say:

"Yes, It Is"

Only because of the harmonies.

Mu apologies as i am do not know how to embed the video. Can someone assist?

Got it. :)

However, the video pops up with something about it can't be displayed due to copyright issues in this country (US). :?

My favorite for the last several years has been Eleanor Rigby.

I especially like this metal cover by Pain. (Metal covers usually don't work for me because they often lose too much of the essence of the original, but I feel this one doesn't suffer from that problem.)

I find it absolutely stunning that an inveterate atheist would have as his favorite Beatles tune "Eleanor Rigby".

Probably not surprising that it's one of those I like least.

I was employing sarcasm. It's a nigh-perfect song for an agnostic leaning towards atheism to hold as his/her favorite Beatles tune.

Sometimes the proper tone of a comment simply doesn't come through. Sorry about that. It was actually meant to amuse you.

The problem wasn't you. I was up way too early when I read your comment. When I lack sleep I tend to go into "literalism mode." :)

This is mine. Don't read a lot into it. Yes, I'm a soppy romantic, but this is more about the harmony, the rough cry of Lennon's voice, and the simple style.

Fic ahoy!

Well, damn....what should I write next? Hmmmmmmmm......

No assumptions made, Quo.

Here's my top ten:

1. "Drive My Car"
2. "Octopus's Garden"
3. "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"
4. "When I'm Sixty-Four" (which is now bittersweet for me after my divorce)
5. "Norwegian Wood"
6. "Here Comes the Sun" (in part because for me it recalls The Resurrection)
7. "Come Together"
8. "Let It Be" (which is definitely about The Virgin Mary, no matter Paul's protestations)
9. "Can't Buy Me Love"
10. "Eight Days a Week"

A much more "poppy" version than what most might expect from me, I'd wager.

Honestly, as brilliant as the Beatles are, I grew up on Paul McCartney and Wings, and overall I prefer them.
