Should your spouse/serious SO have a say in whether or not you get a tattoo?
Poll ended at Tue Jan 16, 2018 12:41 pm
Most emphatically no, since it's my body and I'll do with it as I like; he or she can just deal with it, and how dare this person think anyone besides me is entitled to a say?! 17%  17%  [ 1 ]
No; while I'll certainly hear and entertain their perspective on it, perhaps to the point of delaying the procedure while while we discuss it further, ultimately the decision is mine 50%  50%  [ 3 ]
Yes; we're a team, and to do something like that without consulting my partner or allowing him/her input would be somewhat inconsiderate 17%  17%  [ 1 ]
Yes, he or she is the one who's going to have to look at it day after day, and to get a tat without their express leave or permission is the action of a narcissistic twerp. 17%  17%  [ 1 ]

What's your take on a spouse's/SO's tats?

Semantics at best, non-sequitur at worst. Nor do the assertions of sentence three follow logically from sentence two.

It's those who think their precious individuality, or more properly their unchecked ego, should prevail over the profundity of loving someone more than they do themselves who are eminently equipped for modern relationships. For me, satisfactory complementarity is more about a quid pro quo and the narcissism of two people deserving each other, for the nonce, than it is the higher evolutions of love.

There's a reason Donne said, "No man is an island." Contemporary society, tragically, is full of little island wannabes.

And that's not just me.

Of course, that means you're "objectifying women" and "putting women on a pedestal", which is "just another form of patriarchal control".

Or some ridiculous crap like that.

The phrase used on so many truth-tellers to silence them.

"Stop rocking the boat."

Nope. Learn to swim. :tomato:
