3 Revealed STOnline Ships

Postby JaceRidley » Thu Dec 31, 2009 10:03 pm

So Star Trek Online is doing a contest for people to name 3 new tier 5 vessels, one of each type, with the winners receiving a poster of the vessel and other sundry fun stuff. I submitted my names and forgot to save the pictures, so I made a dummy account strictly to grab these.

Note: I did not render these...I'm just showing them off here for you all to see and yes, I'm hosting the images. I'm leaving them the size I made them(relatively big) to give you an idea of the real detail these ships have.

This is one of the tier 5 Battle Cruisers that will serve along side the tier-5 Sovereign, and as of yet unrevealed Majestic and Noble class vessels.
LENGTH: 724m | DRAFT: 90m | BEAM: 255m

My submitted Titles: Monarch-class & Caesar-class

This is the tier-5 Escort class vessel that will serve along side the tier-5 Prometheus, and as of yet unrevealed Phoenix and Cerberus class vessels.
LENGTH: 390m | DRAFT: 70m | BEAM: 306m

My submitted Titles: Paladin-class & Ares-class

This is the tier-5 Science vessel that will serve along side the tier-5 Luna(Riker's new ship), and as of yet unrevealed Sol and Polaris class vessels.
LENGTH: 554m | DRAFT: 98m | BEAM: 211m

My Submitted Titles: Aphelion-class and I can't remember the other. Either Patron or Advocator

My Thoughts:

I rather like the basic design of the tier 5 Heavy Cruiser(what I called Monarch/Caeser). It's Star Trek in design and with the customization options I can imagine it being VERY cool in use. I can see my secondary Trill character(Since Gideon will of course be flying a Sovereign) using it. It just plain looks fast, looks strong, looks imposing. I really do like this one.

The Escort tier 5 I think is an interesting gunboat design. It just LOOKS tough. A fleet of those coming at you, each packing massive destructive force, that just seems imposing to me. Upon retrospect a name in line with a bird of prey(like Thunderhawk or Falcon) would be appropriate because of nacelle/strut placement. I like it.

The Science vessel I have mixed feelings on. I think it's interesting, but that doesn't mean I necessarily like it. The detached secondary hull kind of makes me not a fan, just as I never liked the Oberth-class vessels. I think it might look better if I could see it from all angles but I am ambivalent towards it otherwise. I'm usually never a support style player in games, so I won't really need to deal with using it anyway.

Style? Check.

Substance? We'll see.

Here are my thoughts:
Battle Cruiser-I like that, looks Voyager-esque.
Escort Vessel-I'm half'n'half on this. The placement and 'attitude' of the nacelles fits a tough vessel which an escort would need to be, but I don't like the postioning of the deflector dish.
Science Vessel-Ugh! That is all.

I agree with Jason on the first and second images. I might also have suggested Aurora for the first myself. As for the third, I truly don't like it much at all.

First one looks good.

Third looks meh.

Second looks like someone chewed up a bunch of starship parts and vomited them back up.

Actually, I kind of like the second one. The snub-nose makes it look very different from the general line of ships, but the rest of the styling makes it fit right in.

That top one is longer then a Sovereign class Rycon. I've got one, takes ages to turn, but looks awesome \w/

The first one is alright. Nothing special.

I actually really like the second one, including the deflector. It says "I will devour you. Resistance is futile." (\gorn/) I think I would call it the Rameses-class, after the famous Egyptian Pharaoh. Not sure why.

The third one looks like a shoe.
