She was at her best when they crossed over to the mirror universe. I really thought her character grew in those episodes.

Honestly, I was not really happy with the way DSC handled the Mirror Universe.

The uniforms reminded me of track suits.

I think the Tartigrade Drive was weird.

But, as always, there were things I liked about the series and things I would keep.

As for Mary Wiseman, she's not chunky, she has a thicker body type. The one time we see her exercising, she's keeping up the pace. Humans come in all sorts of shapes and sizes.

I do not agree with the opinion that she's "too fat". In person I think she' come off as "not a skeleton", while most folks on TV are really petite or thin. It's an artifact of the technology of TV.

After that, you either die a low-rank nobody, a hero, or you live long enough to be promoted to a morally questionable admiral.
LOL!

Time was I would have argued this well into 2019.

Now, I'm just going to say "Agree to disagree" and leave it at that.

Well, not quite: I'd assert that the veterans' opinions on what constitutes "too heavy" for the service are more substantive than the layman's, with all due respect.

And she's too heavy.

Oh, and ... that's not a fallacious appeal to authority. It's a proper one. :tomato:

She would not pass the physical training in my opinion
in fact i doubt she would have the mentality to pass, let alone fit in with other cadets.
I know when i did military training a long time back people like her would have been destroyed mentally by the others and dont give me that political correctness bullshit because everyone is not treated equally in certain situations and military camp is not like civvy street.

To be among the elite of those that pass training , you would have to stand out among the others, I doubt she would compete on the lower spectrum let alone the elite level.

Like NASA, it depends on her expertise. There has been zostic people in NASA.
Scientists, Engineers etc....
Starfleet is paramilitary and not as strict as actual military .
Personally I think she does lack the personality skills to advance to captain though.

OK, rather than walking away, let me go about this in a slightly different way.

Do you consider this character someone from whom you would readily take orders? Remember, ensigns outrank every NCO in Starfleet. That includes, say, Chief O'Brien.

Do you think this person capable of the extreme physical exertion someone in Starfleet might be required to perform in an emergency situation?

Might we be able to compromise on the fact that admission to the Academy is not graduation from the Academy and leave it at that?

you only had to see how O Brien did not think much of Bashir who out ranked him. early in ds9

In the episode Armageddon Game when both were on the run and hiding out you could sense O Brien was the dominant one, the one educating Bashir.
Look how O Brien took none of his shit or orders when they were captured by the Jem Hadar

The notion of Tilly being in charge of people like O Brien is laughable to conceive.

... or is Mary Wiseman's character just a tad too chunky for a Starfleet cadet?
Said the same on another forum a while back and got jumped all over and accused of being a hater etc.
Another "excuse" was its not the flagship, as if that somehow means less restrictions for other ships.

And another excuse was scotty was fat as well, but seeing as he only put the weight on after it rendered wisemans character weight as different issues.
I know , in the sickingly disgusting pc age we must accept all shapes and sizes but my first opinion was also she was too heavy.
tell me she is not fat for a cadet !
and the uniform is not an excuse for a double chin

Okay. She is not fat for a cadet.

She isn't even really fat. She may not be a size 4 but she's also not having any trouble doing her job.

I'm sorry(for you) she doesn't have a body type you particularly enjoy. I'm sure in all the hours that you spend in the gym to achieve the greek god physique that you most certainly have given your criticism of others that you have worked out the perfect regimen to regulate your own biology but sadly, the rest of us mere mortals still have some trouble here and there.

Oddly, we can still quite a bit done during the day. Conundrum, I know.

Oh and to address something you said before...

"Sickeningly disgusting PC Age..."

You know who complains about having to be "PC"?

People who don't like being called on being assholes. It's real simple to not be an asshole. Complaining about having to be politically correct is just whining because you aren't allowed to be misogynist, racist, bigoted, insulting, demeaning, etc. to others anymore without being told off for it.

Welcome to 2019. That kind of bullshit behavior got left behind. Act like an adult and show other people some respect without complaining about it.

First off I am at the same waist and weight since I was 19, and am 50 now, due to living healthy and exercise, and never been in a gym since I was a kid. I do not wake up one morning fat or like a skeleton, I make sure I eat properly and maintain myself and not allow myself to pile on weight or lose it for that matter.
I have no problem with people who are heavy, I just dont want to be heavy, as it brings with it health issues.

Even if the above were not true and I was an obese lazy slob, wallowing in my own fat and sweat how would that detract from my point she appears to be too fat to pass military training.
Answer me that einstein.

As for Tilly, she is not obese, but she is fat for a cadet, and as someone who actually did military service I am convinced she is too heavy for a cadet. In fact I have never seen anyone pass training as chubby as she is. Her arse is bigger than mine and I am 6 foot 3 male aged 50.

Now you can spin that whatever way you like, deflect from my point and make it about me and my body shape, political correctness statement, but the fact is she is/was too heavy for a cadet in my opinion....an opinion I am more than entitled to air.

I have no idea what a size 4 is , in whatever country you are, nor do I give a care, the pic clearly shows she is piling on the pounds and I am not knocking the actress, but piling on pounds that would make believing she is a fit cadet all the more unrealistic.

That isn't deflecting. That is me really getting so so sick of the gatekeeping white male bullshit I see in every fandom nowadays.... that I just need to roll my eyes because I remain, as ever...

Unimpressed.
