I found the latest episode of Star Trek Continues ...

... to be immensely disappointing.

I'll withhold any specific critiques until more of us have seen it, but ... it ranks for me as easily the weakest of their seven efforts, and is the first I wouldn't honor with a second viewing.

Interesting to note, though, that they agreed with me in the long-ago debate on whether, to that point, a woman had commanded a Constitution-class starship. Some heavy hitters come down on my side, it would seem.

I'll be interested to hear your opinion on both the episode and the decisions made by its writers, Michael.

This episode wasn't firing on all thrusters. And that's sad given the issue they were addressing. I do blame the writers in this case. This could have been a very strong episode and a very good Trek story.

Unfortunately, the choice to go with a silly deus ex machina was the worst way to solve the dilemma.

I suspect this is a case where someone decided, "Hey, let's address women's equality in a story." I commend them for wanting to address an important social issue. Some of the best Original Series episodes did that. But you've still got to tell a damn good story while tackling the important social issue. In this case, they didn't do that.
