You are free to offer your opinions on a show, episode, book, film, film series, cinematic universe, etc., as long as it applies to that item, and not to the stated or assumed political views of the producers, writers, actors, key grip, best boy, intern, etc., of said item. In short, you want to talk about a show or movie, talk about the show or movie.
Others are free to disagree with your opinion. (You are not entitled to express your opinion in a vacuum.) BUT that opposing opinion must follow the same requirements above that the original opinion had to follow, as well as not bringing in the assumed political views of the original poster. (I leave out "stated" as they should not state any political position here on STPMA.)
ALSO, do not toss about derogatory labels at someone who offers an opinion in opposition to yours. No name calling, political labels (SJW, etc.,) questioning their humanity, morality, ethics, true fan status, or your assumption they are in the business to protect a certain fandom (gatekeeping, etc.). Again, discuss the show or movie not the politics or motives of another poster.
If you dislike something, it's perfectly fine to say so. However, posting your dislike every time someone else says anything positive about a show or movie, essentially stating the same thing over and over again is not acceptable. If you have something new to add, or are replying to a specific point in someone else's comment, okay. But if it's just to state once again, "IT SUCKS!" Don't.

Star Trek: Lower Decks
CBS All Access has announced the release date for a new animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks.
https://trekmovie.com/2020/07/01/breaki ... -revealed/
The series will be released on August 6th.
The show is set on the USS Cerritos in the year 2380.
---
I'll give it a watch for a couple of episodes to see what they've come up with.

Same here. I heard that the creators are the same from Rick & Morty. It might be amusing. I don't know.
My avatar is Captain Weynik, commander of the Defiant-class starship USS Ajax, which is part of the USS Surefoot universe.

What little I've seen is unimpressive... especially the ship. Did they run out of parts building a Nebula?

Re: Star Trek: Lower Decks
I have watched the trek shows of ds9, tng, voyager and enterprise multiple times in binges.....seen all the others, but never watched a single episode of the animated series, nor will I be watching this.
Zero interest in cartoons.
Bad enough every movie today is some piece of animated shit, or some superhero , or voiceover nonsense without it infesting trek as well

You should make an exception for "Yesteryear."
It is easily one of the twenty-best ever Trek episodes.

I'll give it a shot, I do hope it explains the ship and how it functions...my only beef right now is the uniforms they are wearing....they arent inline with what we seen so far.

Re: Star Trek: Lower Decks
Honestly it not being another dark and brutal show and instead focused on a more hopeful Star Trek sells me on this.
For me the canon ends in 2005 now. All the new stuff just isn't canon and recently I swore off ever writing Trek again, but I will give this show a shot. It's clearly not the Trek I want, but I have Orville for that.

Re: Star Trek: Lower Decks
There have been some theories bounced around that the ship is really just the saucer, the rest being a warp sled similar to the shuttle that brought Spock to the Enterprise in The Motion Picture.
Though, I doubt the studio had even thought of it, or could care about explaining anything.

The Ship reminds me of the Steamrunner design - which I always hated.

Re: Star Trek: Lower Decks
In terms of ships, I hate it, but I've hated all the designs where you have to travel through the pylons to get to the engineering section. I like a good strong neck, like the Connie or the beefier Galaxy, or for the engineering section to be directly connected, like the Sovereign or the NX refit.
But I also think Voyager is a cruddy ship too, for different reasons.

Re: Star Trek: Lower Decks
I thought it was awful.
Had hoped I would like it, or it might even have had an orville sense of humour, but it sucked.
And that character Mariner was just so irritating it was to the point I almost had to turn it off, and only saw it out to the end as i watched it with my wife.

It's pretty cute if you don't take it seriously.
Should we really be surprised that it's a caricature of Star Trek?
Have they declared that this is canon?
